KfE is where AREDA began. An active group of enthusiastic students at the University of Zurich, who are involved in development projects. They also run a library and a mailing list. KfE was founded in the 50s and since then had projects all around the world. Interesting events. Whatever you want to know about development aid in Switzerland, the chances are high someone from KfE will know about it. |

Recently the "Freundes- und Förderkreises Osteuropa" was founded in Basel with the purpose to offer a platform for cultural and scientific projects about Eastern Europe. The site is of course still young, but as an association the FFO has the potential to bring together many of the typically small Swiss initiatives in this domain. |

"Menschenrechte Schweiz" is a network of Swiss organisations working on human rights. Their page contains a wide collection of links to institutions and NGOs. Also recommended for information on legal instruments, HR charta, international agreements. |

The "Verein der AbsolventInnen des Instituts für Ethnologie, Kultur- und Sozialanthropologie" is the association of ethnology alumni of the Vienna University. They issue a newsletter and their page is kind of Ali Baba's cave for enthnology links. Ethnology is important for participative democracy: we believe in development aid nothing works if one doesn't understand local people. |

"Memorial" is one of the best known Russian associations, so no comment of ours is necessary. Just visit their site. |

"Reporters sans frontières" is one of the best known and active associations defending the right to free press and free information. Independent press and media are very important for democracy in Eastern Europe, but in several countries journalists are neither free nor safe. |

"Ost-West-Gegeninformationen" is a well-informed, undogmatical magazine on Eastern Europe and the EU enlargement, based at the Graz university. Interesting authors, many of them from Eastern Europe. |

Culturescapes is a suite of festivals taking place every year in Basel, Switzerland. Each year another country is the focus, like Ucraine in 2004, Armenia in 2005 and this year, Estland. A unique occasion for experiencing excellent artists, writers, musicians from those countries. |
